Just over 5 years ago I stepped out of rehab because I’d been struggling to handle the stress and pressure in my life. I had always been fit, lean and healthy, but the day I was released back into the wild to begin a new life clean and sober, there I was, 3 stone overweight, with a new addiction to wagon wheels and fish finger butties.

I needed to get back into shape. I spent a lot of time just thinking about it. Hoping that somehow it would happen. All the fitness books, guides and qualifications I had stacked on my bookshelf and hard drive, and the 14 years in the trenches gave me more than I needed to get shit done.
I even joined 2 new gyms which made me look pretty serious about it. But I never took any serious action.
I dipped my toe in. I did things like sporadic workouts and short-lived diet plans, I even did a fucking juice cleanse, I knew wouldn't help. The exact choices and behaviours I had ALWAYS coached my clients away from.
For 12 months the one thing I needed to do, I never did.
I never got serious enough…
And I never fully commit to a consistent exercise routine. But then something happened that hit me like a truck.

I was rebuilding my business, family life was going well.

I needed to be the good example to my son by the time he was born.
The first thing I had to do was meet myself where I was.
It wasn’t always easy. I quickly found out the learning curve is steep when you’re trying to get fit and drop a fair bit of weight.
Even though I’d been a Personal Trainer for 14 years, for the first time I found myself firmly in the same shoes as the lads and ladies that I had coached through the years.
Knowing the path and walking the path are worlds apart.

In the 41 years I’ve been breathing, I’ve grown up in sunny Manchester, been involved in professional sport, I’ve moved to Philadelphia to play football for 6 years.
