Yeah, Mission Impossible reference. Big fan.
But this mission, should you choose to accept it, transforms your health and your life.
Cheers for getting yourself here mate I hope you like what you find and stick around, because the best is yet to come.
Whilst I’ve got you, can you give me a few minutes so I can let you know what to expect from me, Rick Winstanley and the site.
RW Coaching & performance was born in 2006 in a sunny place called Manchester, England as a one-man personal training company.
I’m still lucky to coach a select few clients one to one but today the business has evolved to become an online coaching platform and community working with stressed out, busy dads who are fed up with feeling drained, outpaced, and just plain old?
My mission is to give you all the tools you need to revamp your life, reclaim your fitness, boost your energy, rebuild your confidence and toughen your mental resilience so that you can be the absolute best you can for your family, mates, colleagues, and the human race.
Sound good?
But…This is more than just a fitness site?
And what makes this more than “just another fitness site” is that we’ll talk about the nuts and bolts of getting fit and lean, but I’ll spend more time coaching you how to take positive action so you can weave fitness and simple choice nutrition into your jam-packed life, navigate the bollocks that gets thrown in the way, and maintain rock-hard mental resilience right in the middle of the beautiful chaos.
And I’ll do it by talking and writing about anything and everything I bloody well want to.
So, I’ve you ever get offended or don’t like what I put out, then I’m not for you and I bid you good-day sir.
“If all you’ve got in your toolbox is a hammer, then all you’ll see are nails to hit”.
I heard this in a seminar I went to a while back by the late Charles Poliquin. I didn’t understand the depth of it until I had a proper think on it.
I’m going to talk from the “I” with this one, and here’s my take on it.
When I put everything into looking mega lean, which is an all-encompassing fucking slog by the way, I thought the end result would make the rest of my life perfect.
And during this all-encompassing fucking slog, I didn’t take care of my mental health, I neglected relationships, social occasions, hobbies and even work.
Through my late 20’s and into my 30’s I looked decent enough, but I was shattered half the time, I wasn’t sleeping well, and a snappy sod from eating next to no carbs. I spent all my spare time in the gym, I wasn’t fully present at work and struggled to get through 90 minutes on a Saturday.
I looked good but I was suffering inside because in the pursuit of the body beautiful I neglected everything else that combine to create a whole, healthy, and productive man.
Today, I believe that being lean is a small part of the big picture. Health is a whole-package deal.
And to be a healthy fully grown human, to improve my human performance I need a wholistic approach.
A balancing act of mental stability, a mindful spiritual experience, and a satisfying and progressive career. To make it out alive I need strong intimate and personal relationships, time for my hobbies and interests, good nutrition habits, a regular form of exercise I enjoy, and time to just be on my own in peace and quiet, usually up a mountain somewhere.
My mission is to coach you how to live the best life you can, and from my pantheon of sub-par behaviour the one truth I know is that the way to be of zero help to anyone is to try and please everyone.
So, the content I put out won’t please everyone.
If you like entertaining actionable content that will have a positive impact in your life, if you’re open minded and laid back enough to find inspiration in my ramblings rather than be offended by them then you’re the type of legend I’m aiming to please.
There’s going to be colourful language and hard-hitting conversations that won’t be watered down. It’s not for the shock factor or to be controversial but to get real and vulnerable because that’s life, and uncomfortable feelings and looking into the dark corners of ourselves are part of the experience mate.
A dark place can either be a burial or a planting.
The uncomfortable feelings are where we learn the most about who we are, what we need to work on to improve our fulfilment of life and to strengthen our spirituality. If that’s not your thing, I still love you mate, but you’ll not get much from being here. But fret not there’s millions of other fitness sites that will be your thing. Just have a google.
Because looking great is only a part of being healthy, and you’ll find all the information here that you need to achieve a leaner physique. Articles, eBooks, the Physical Edge weekly newsletter, impactful programmes and individual coaching opportunities all focused on nutrition, exercise and living well.
Whilst were on that I’ve a brilliant program to get you started.

Which brings to the next question…
I’ve been a fitness professional since 2006 and an amateur at life since 1984. As I’ve stumbled, crawled, laughed, and wondered through life, my experiences have given me a broader perspective of the trials and tribulations of how to be a healthier and more productive human being. “To be uselful.” As our mate Arnold says.
This is a journey I’m still on, so as I go, I’m inviting you to join me and my band of brothers on our quest.
Think of us as those kind-hearted, brave, driven, but flawed knights in Monty Pythons Holy Grail in search of their Holy Grail. If you haven’t seen the film then strap in, get yourself sat down and put an adult nappy on because there’s a high probability you’ll piss your pants at what’s possibly the funniest film ever made.
If you’ve made it this far down mate, thank you, I hope you stick around for a bit and help us all grow stronger.
If you’ve any topics that you would like me to talk about, better still if you want to join in the conversation and contribute to the content then click on the link below and get in touch. You never know what doors it might open for you, and you’ll definitely make some new and awesome mates.
